Faith Fellowship Church

Faith Fellowship Church hopes to promote the building of God’s Kingdom by exposing those unfamiliar with the Gospel that they might become believers. We hope to encourage those who profess to be believers to act upon their belief as evidenced by repenting and being baptized in the name of the "Lord Jesus Christ" and to enlighten those professing salvation to experience the infilling of God’s Holy Spirit, and move on to discipleship . • Want a site that's mobile device friendly
  • They want to optimize how the donors, volunteers, scholars, parents, mentors, and leadership team communicate amongst each other and across groups.
  • Currently, the church uses Dropbox as a document repository for Bible Study notes and they would like a way to incorporate this in their website (this is preferred, not a requirement).
  • They want a shared calendar integrated in the website (calendar for the public and one for internal users like Ministry Leads). It should display in the newsfeed of upcoming events, but once the link is clicked on it shows more detailed information about the event. Import Mail Chimp on password side of the website and take snapshots of the newsletters and place on the home page.

Project Manager - Terrance Brown

Business Analyst - Terrance Brown

Technical Team Leader - Kerch McConlogue

Technical Summary

  1. The slider on the front page will not load on my iPhone and returns a jquery script error on my desk top machine. The site needs a more efficient way to display large images on the front page and not tank the feed. A different plugin must be available. Currently I do not have a specific suggestion.
  2. Current social media features at the top of the site should have a "Follow us" sort of label. Add the ability to tweet, pin, post to Facebook, and email to a friend to the bottom of pages/posts to encourage sharing.
  3. Add MailChimp form to facilitate the collection of visitor data (contact info and newsletter info) as well as the option to receive emailed updates when new content is added to the site. Make this signup option more prominent on the site.
  4. Reposition Donate button to be more prominent. Either PayPal or Donate for Good would work. PayPal does now have the ability to manage recurring donation. However, consider that PayPal is not actually a bank and can, in some circumstances (like abnormal amount of activity) freeze the account for some time. Network for Good is extremely reputable (probably easier to set up) and allows the donor to elect to pay the processing fee in addition to the intended donation.
  5. Add Google analytics. Gmail account: login and password will be required. (Provide some kind of training/explanation on using this to HIT members on site)
  6. Make a form to facilitate the gathering stories. Include check boxes to assign the story to the appropriate category:
    • entrepreneurial (and then by type: artist, shop keeper, etc)
    • story of a visit (The results of this form will be sent to HIT who will reformat/edit content to be added to website stories/business listings in appropriate categories.)
  7. Search capabilities:
    • Add Google custom search
    • Set up a category search to find specific types of stories (item 12) AND make each type of story available within its own archive page
      • Add Photo Gallery. Currently it seems that HIT uses the plugin NextGenGallery, a powerful plugin. However galleries should be used more obviously.

Designer tasks:

  1. Adjust colors of navigation, social media, and font styles to match HIT logo
  2. Make new templates,
    1. News and Updates: template sample
    2. Stories blog page(these will be used for Stories posts)
    3. Archive template
    4. Tumbler page (using Alpine phototile for tumblr plugin or other)
    5. Other designer type tasks:
      • Crop existing images to eliminate text. Then replace content as text for better SEO
      • If that content can be supplied as text, it would speed development
      • Some images should just be resized for better download

General suggestions:

  1. Cyberchimp theme already includes all files required for a child theme which will future proof the progress made on this site and should, therefore, be used.
  2. Add alt tags on social media buttons at the top of the page: Follow us on Pinterest, etc.
  3. Add alt tags to all images to improve SEO
  4. Make use of heading tags instead of bold for titles and subheads. This will help SEO immensely
  5. Make better use of featured images
  6. Remove odd images in right corner of posts
  7. Turn off and remove plugins that are not currently working to cut down on excess code. A lower ration of code to content makes Google happy.

Additional Requests (If time allows):

  1. Add a form to integrate application processes for job openings and competitions. This should be a fairly straightforward process. HIT must supply the fields (questions) to be included on the form.
  2. T-shirt sales are currently managed through Storenvy.com. This could be managed by PayPal but (without adding additional costs) would still require that the purchases be processed on the PayPal site and, therefore, off of the HIT site. Unless there is some other issue, my recommendation is to continue using Storenvy

We need 3-4 programmers with experience using .Net MVC using C# and razor templates, especially people familiar with TortoiseGit, Visual Studio 2012 and open source CMS libraries for .NET. They should bring laptops, ideally with TortoiseGit and Visual Studio 2012 already installed.

We also need a graphic design & Website layout design person early in the process to (1) design the Home Page web layout and color scheme and (2) design some graphic elements for the site including the header graphic.

Our plan is to use an iterative Agile-style approach so we'd like to have people with experience in Agile or interest in learning about it. Finally, WordPress experience is a plus because we may possibly use it for part of the site.

Headquartered in Baltimore, we work to create and support a socially inclusive community believing in the idea that real communities are those in which every person can fully participate. Through all our efforts, we recognize that as we work for social inclusion, it also means that we are working to create social change. By promoting through community organizing and education, we can positively achieve systemic change at all levels across our State. Through all of our work, we can impact a new wave of advocates who will be educated, and empowered to continue to seek the reforms and changes that matter most to them. We are only opening the door.

GiveCamp 2013 Project Summary

Maryland Justice Project is committed to representing and enhancing the rights of incarcerated and previously incarcerated men and women. This goal is furthered by community involvement, volunteerism, donations, fundraising and other events.

The leaders of Maryland Justice Project have discovered that many non-profit organizations in the Baltimore compete for the same monetary and human resources needed to accomplish their goals. To assist in alleviating this completion and foster more cooperation and collaboration between organizations, Maryland Justice Project would like to build a new web site designed to enable this collaboration. The website will be done in SharePoint / Office 365.

The features of this site include:

  1. A Calendar available to all non-profit organizations
  2. Links to partner organization sites
  3. Ability to donate
  4. Information about volunteer opportunities

GiveCamp 2013 Project Summary

Neighbor Ride is a non-profit organization that connects volunteers with seniors that need transportation. This organization has a phenomenal mission and they are dedicated to helping seniors remain active and independent by providing transportation for activities such as medical appointments, social outings, religious services, shopping and other day-to-day needs.

Currently Neighbor Ride has a dated look-n-feel on their website that presents poorly to potential supporters and participants. In addition to the lack of aesthetics, the website does not incorporate proper human centered design practices that allow a user to intuitively find the information they need. The Neighbor Ride project seeks to modify the website with html/css or by creating a new WordPress site. Neighbor Ride needs a strong web presence to satisfy all of its constituents and supporters.

GiveCamp 2013 Project Summary

The vision and objective of GiveCamp 2013 and Sacred Zion Full Gospel Baptist Church is to further refine the website in the areas of organization, appearance, style and functionality. This project will involve mostly configuration, using the site hosted by Charity Advantage; there will be minimal hard-core coding. The link to the current site is http://www.SacredZion.org.

Goals include:

  • Improve home page appearance and navigation
  • Enhance the congregation database - email Addresses, Members' Areas of Interest (talents), and Ages of Family Members Bulk emails, requires data base with accurate mailing information, input and maintenance.
  • Pastor message archive strategy (time period) with an emphasis on consolidating information by year. Note restriction: Charity Advantage limits us to 9 pages, but unlimited sub-topics.
  • Develop Strategy to drive more users to website (points of interest?)
  • Leveraging the capabilities and style of http://www.gcchoco.org/ website as the blueprint for Sacred Zion site. Blueprint Crossover Examples Direct access, one click for different church functions: ministries, programs, activities, areas of interest etc. Current state is drop down menus or typing in query bar.
  • Using home page of msbcministries.org the attractive colors and strolling current events should be considered as the home page of Sacred Zion site.
  • Change Current Home Page Pictures - Charity Advantage has function, more user learning is needed so webmaster can take over function.
  • Integrate vast biblical resources of web into the home page so end user can improve learning without having to search the web. For example bible sources, terms, pictures of key biblical events.

These improvements will better serve the congregation, community and potential new church members across all layers of social media.

Technical Summary

The Constituent Relationship Management system is CiviCRM. The major enhancement requested this year is to format Special Olympics' historical MS Excel donation records for import into CiviCRM. At last year's GiveCamp, we learned CiviCRM's data import functions and manually formatted and imported donation records for 2011 and 2012. Given the total amount of data to yet to format (10 years—2000 to 2010), we are looking for volunteers with programming, database, and data transformation skills who could automate the formatting process as much as possible.

Other technical needs for CiviCRM at this year's GiveCamp focus on research and client education. We are seeking some technical "generalists" with the ability to learn new material, as well as strong writing skills. These volunteers will devise and document how Special Olympics could best use CiviCRM to do the following: (1) thank-you notes to donors; (2) key contact tracking; and (3) automated duplicate contact record merging.

We are also seeking a volunteer with system administration skills who could devise and document how Special Olympics should backup and restore its WordPress and CiviCRM systems. The organization would also like a volunteer to devise a migration plan for upgrade to the latest CiviCRM version.

Finally, Special Olympics is seeking a volunteer technical writer, documentation specialist, or web page content specialist to consolidate and organize all the material we hope to have the technical volunteers writing for us at this year's GiveCamp.

GiveCamp 2013 Project Summary

The Executive Director and the staff currently rely on paper-based files similar to nursing charts to keep track of clients, their periodic visits, and the plans of action and referrals. They would like to replace the paper with a simple web application that stores client profiles, records visits and action plans and generally tracks clients and can be used to generate periodic and annual reports of their client activities to simplify grant applications that MFC submits as part of its funding.

Therefore, we need designers/technical developers who have experience in web app development, simple database transaction processing linked to web site forms, and simple reporting of client visits and interventions. Only a small number of personnel would use this to log the information and migration of existing data is open to different approaches. There is no desire for a substantial back end network or significant support costs so as much as possible, the client profile and visit recording applications should use zero or low-cost hosting platform. In addition, another priority (for now or later, the Tech Lead will be making recommendations on this) is to have a simple donor contribution web page that is public-facing and use Paypal or similar app to enable contributors to donate and that would track their profiles and donation records.

Business Need: GiveCamp 2011 and 2012 provided the Webb Group with a functional website to create a web presence for the organization and help communicate with the on-line community. Additionally, the Webb Group would like: to show links with business partners and help provide cross marketing with these partners and to add an academic area of support page within the website that would allow youngsters needing homework/other academic support to e-mail a teacher in that subject area.

Solution: The Webb Group would like their current website enhanced to add a Business Partner Page, add an academic support page and have the current display problems with their web pages resolved. This should be built on top of the web content system current in place on the current website.
